Muiris Ó Fiannachta - Station Manager

muiris

Muiris has been Station Manager with Raidió na Life since September 2007. He first began broadcasting as a volunteer with Raidió na Life in 2001 as a presenter of the magazine programme Fios Feasa. Shortly after that Muiris founded the station's heavy metal show Scrios & Ár - the first show of its kind to be presented through Irish.

He got his first full-time job after graduating from university with the station in 2005 as a researcher and assistant, a job in which he was given a promotion of sorts when the title of that job was changed to "Clár Reachtaire", which although somewhat defying direct translation to English, roughly means "Programme Co-Ordinator."

After a year and a half as RnaL's Clár Reachtaire, Muiris was offered a job in the Irish Language Department of RTÉ Television, where he worked for another half a year on the series "Oileán" and "Scannal". After that he worked with Seachtain na Gaeilge and with the independent TV production companies Animo Productions and Adare Productions.

In his spare time, Muiris greatly enjoys listening to and playing music. He plays guitar as well as another number of instruments and he has a special interest in heavy metal and rock. He has a degree in Irish and Spanish from NUIM and also speaks a number of other languages, with basic levels of Portuguese and Catalan. He also enjoys outdoor pursuits - especially surfing.

Cian Mac Cárthaigh - Programme Co-Ordinator

It's difficult to say where exactly Cian hails from. He was born in Canada but moved to his Cork with his family when he was just a year old. Then, at seven he was on the move again, this time to Dublin, and has been living there since.

He learned his Irish in Scoil Oibilbhéir in Blanchardstown, before attending Coolmine Community School. Then, having earned a first class honours degree in History and Spannish in NUI Maynooth, in 2006 he began presenting 'An Meangadh Mór' on Raidió na Life every Thursday. Following this he worked as a researcher on The Breakfast Show on Newstalk with Claire Byrne and Ger Gilroy.

He returned to Raidió na Life in 2010, presenting Timpeall Orainn and Seisiún 106.In June that same year he took the role of Clár Reachtaire (Programme Coordinator) and has been working in this position ever since.

As well as his work with Raidió na Lige, Cian plays guitar with his band 'The Dirty 9s' who released their album 'Stop Screaming, Start Dreaming' in 2010 and have toured the country, as well as Scotland and Canada. They are currently writing their follow-up. Cian also presents 'Needs More Cowbell' on RTÉ 2XM and can be heard Sundays on 2FM as part of '2XM on 2FM'.

Fearghal Saxe - Technician

Fearghal is from Dublin. He has been messing around with electronics from the time he was a young lad who took great satisfaction in taking his mother's household appliances apart with a meccano screwdriver without necessarily having the know-how to put them back together again - a mode d'emploi which he still uses throughout the course of his daily duties in Raidió na Life.

He has been working in Raidió na Life for the past 3 years. Although his time is mostly spent on sound and operations within the station, he cannot be stopped in his efforts to spread the weird and the wonderful of the world of music through the medium of his music shows, Wednesday's edition of An Meangadh Mór and Thursday nights' Teicneolas.

Marc Ó Loinsigh - Weekend Steward

Marc is from Dublin. He has been working with Raidió na Life for three years. As well as seeing to the running of the station at the weekend, he presents a classical music show, Macalla every Sunday at midday.
