Pobail Ghaeilge: A new documentary series starting on Raidió na Life on Friday 5th January at 7pm
A new documentary series, Pobail Ghaeilge will be broadcast on Raidió na Life 106.4FM on Friday 5th January at 7.00pm and continuing every week until Friday 2nd February. This series was first broadcast during Christmas Week agus listeners who may have missed it will have an opportunity to tune into these fascinating programmes during January and February.
In this series, the presenter Peadar Ó Caomhánaigh travels around the country to report on some of the non-Gaeltacht communities where efforts are being made to promote the Irish language. As co-founder of the Pop Up Gaeltacht, Peadar will be examining the identity and inspiration of new Irish language communities in Carn Toghar in Derry; Carlow; Ennis in County Clare and Loughrea in Galway, as well as looking at his own community; Clondalkin in Dublin. Along with linguistic analysis by Dr John Walsh, this programme aims to demonstrate the role that new speakers can play in the language movement, as we ask the question; is it possible to create a real Irish language community outside the Gaeltacht?
This programme was made with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s Sound & Vision funding scheme and Glór na nGael.
