Exploring the Troubles in a new play on Raidió na Life
Set during the conflict in Northern Ireland; in a small house in west Belfast in the 1970s, a mother is trapped between two dangerous camps on the Falls Road. She wants to keep her family safe, but she must deal with powerful forces.
The new radio play ‘An Cor Nach gCastar’ will be broadcast on Raidió na Life at 18:00, Friday 31st May and it will be rebroadcast at 19:00, Saturday 1 June.
Written by Belfast writer, Réaltán Ní Leannáin, An Cor nach gCastar’ is an insightful and darkly humorous play that explores personal experiences and those of women in particular, during an extraordinary period in Norther Ireland.
Taking part in the play are Máire Zepf, Seán Ó Muireagáin, Seán Mac Seáin, Kilian Zepf and Séan Ó Meallaigh. Also taking part are young actors from Amharclann Aisling Óg in Belfast; Grace McElroy, Áine McCavana and Ella Hughes.
The play is a reimagining and reworking of short stories from the collection ‘Dílis’, published by Cló Iar-Chonnacht in 2016. This programme was funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, with the television license fee.
