About The Show: News headlines are read at the top of the hour at 6, 7 and 8 pm on Raidió na Life. Our newsroom is staffed by a team of voluntary newsreaders, who include Kate Ní Uallacháin, Mícheál Ó Riain, Feargus Ó Snodaigh, Emma Ní Riain and Nollaig Ó Cróinín.
Kate Ní Uallacháin:
Kate hails from Killdare. At present she is in her final year of a BA in Media Studies at The National University of Ireland Maynooth. She enjoys travelling and when she graduates she intends to travel abroad to add to her media experience. She works in Dublin as a substitute teacher from time to time. Her passtimes include swimming regularly and she loves to dance around the handbags on a night out with the girls. She joined the Raidió Na Life team as a news reader in Septemberof this year.
Mícheál Ó Riain: Mícheál was born and raised in Waterford city. He speaks Connemara Irish however, as he spent 6 years teaching in the Comprehensive School in An Cheathrú Rua. He is a former History Lecturer in Dún an Charúin College of Education. He spent more than twenty years abroad working in the European Schools and he spent six years as Secretary General of those schools. He lives in South Dublin.
Dónal Ó Mainnín:
Dónal is originally from Roscommon but has been living in the capital for over ten years now after studying engineering in Galway and also spending a while working in Dundalk. He loves languages and travelling and he spent a year in Germany where of course he learned German. He has a keen interest in politics, literature, sport and music and he plays the guitar and the tin whistle. He is married to Niamh who is from Cork but don’t hold that against her!
Feargus Ó Snodaigh:
Feargus Ó Snodaigh hails from Sandymount in Dublin, where he was raised with Irish. He attended Scoil Lorcáin and Coláiste Eoin in South Dublin.
Emma Ní Riain: Emma is from Wicklow and is in her final year of the BA in Media Studies in Maynooth. She also studies Irish. She loves to read, especially anything of the vampire variety. She lives by the saying; “When you are in deep trouble, say nothing and try to look like you know what you are doing.” She would love a job in the media when she is finished college.
